Arugam Bay Main Point

One of the most easily accessible surf points from town it is also one of the busiest. The waves here have made it one of the top ten spots to surf in the world. A right-hand wave and a soft reef make it an easy surf point.

Pottuvil Point

Start out from the road next to the Arugam Bay hospital (Base hospital) to get to a beach lined with fishing boats. The unique location and landscape make it a hit among surfers. Many large boulders flank the sandy beaches transforming it into a mesmerizing landscape at sunset.

Peanut Farm

Situated right in front of a Naval Camp entrance, walk across the abandoned huts to head to the beach. Regarded as one of the oldest known surfing spots in Arugam Bay named after the many peanut trees that were farmed there. It used to be a privately-run guest house that has now been taken over by the navy.

Arugam Bay Elephant Rock

Named after the elephants that visit a rock the shape of an elephant, the summit is an ideal place for relaxing. Cross the lagoon to get to the beach and catch a wave or two.

Whiskey Point

One of the most populated surfing spots, Whiskey point is suitable for surfers of all levels. This spot can be accessed via the A4 and is a lively place with bars and cafes hosting beach parties with dancing and music.

Lighthouse Point

Situated 10 kilometers north of Pottuvil, light house point can be accessed along the A4 after passing Urani Lagoon. The drive is spectacular with roads lined by paddy fields on both sides and other breathtaking sceneries. Although not as popular as other points, it is frequented by surfers because of its untouched beaches.
